Vintage Recipes for Potluck Needed, Dessert?

Hello Yahoo Answers folks!

I'm attending a potluck on Wednesday, and I want to bring something unique (last time 4 people brought pasta salad).

I'd like something that is antiquated and not often seen these days, some sort of vintage recipe.

I'd like it to be a dessert, preferably. The only thing I can really think of is a Jell-o mold fruit salad. But I'd like to see what other options I have.

Can you recommend anything, or even link to a recipe?

*Side Note*- I just learned the beat it dance and I'm stoked!Vintage Recipes for Potluck Needed, Dessert?

2/3 cup sugar

1 egg

1/3 cup brown sugar

2 teaspoons cinnamon

1/2 teaspoons nutmeg

whipped cream or ice cream for garnish Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350脗掳 F.

Combine flour, baking powder and salt, set aside.

butter a 9'; square baking dish. Place sliced apples in buttered baking dish and sprinkle with a mixture of brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Mix in egg. Add flour mixture, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture to make a stiff batter. Spread batter evenly over apples (see photo) and bake for about 50 minutes or until golden brown. Cool for at least ten minutes before serving.

You can serve this dish right out of the pan, or invert it onto a serving plate like an upside-down cake, warm or at room temperature. Top with whipped cream or ice cream.

Note: I double the topping ingredients.

SOOOO good and make a raspberry coolis on top or put it on the side for everyone. Its easier than you think! and it will kick everyoone elses' recipes' butts! lol
Bread pudding? When I searched 'unique desserts' or 'old fashion desserts' bread pudding seemed to be the winner. I know my mom is a huge fan of this dessert so I'm sure you can't go wrong (I'm a fried food kind of girl so sweets don't really do it for me - hence the mom reference!) Anyway I've included a link with a variety of different bread pudding recipes. We typically make the ';tastefully simple'; type which can be purchased on there website. You can also reference the link and choose from pumpkin, strawberry, mexican, soft and sweet, choc etc etc....Good luck!
My mother made these for every family gathering. Everyone really, really loved them. Plus they're easy. Look at the picture and you'll be sold. Also, you don't see a lot of five-star recipes on this site very often. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Scotcharoos鈥?/a>

Here's a pretty cool one. I made this yesterday and it was pretty yummy. It's called Ribbon Salad and layers of colorful jello and white cremy jello. I've heard its been around for a long long time. =]

INGREDIENTS

1 (3 ounce) package cherry gelatin

4 cups boiling water, divided

2 1/2 cups cold water, divided

2 envelopes unflavored gelatin

2 cups milk

1 cup sugar

2 cups sour cream

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 (3 ounce) package lemon gelatin

1 (3 ounce) package orange gelatin

1 (3 ounce) package lime gelatin

DIRECTIONS

In a bowl, dissolve cherry gelatin in 1 cup boiling water. Add 1/2 cup cold water; stir. Pour into a 13-in. x 9-in. x 2-in. dish coated with nonstick cooking spray; refrigerate until set but not firm, about 30 minutes.

In a small saucepan, sprinkle unflavored gelatin over 1/2 cup cold water. Let stand for 1 minute. Stir in milk and sugar. Cook and stir over medium heat until gelatin and sugar are dissolved.

Remove from the heat. Whisk in sour cream and vanilla until smooth. Spoon 1-2/3 cups creamy gelatin mixture over the first flavored layer. Chill until set but not firm. Prepare remaining flavored gelatin as directed for cherry gelatin. Alternately layer flavored gelatins with creamy gelatin layers, allowing each to set before adding next layer. Top with lime gelatin. Refrigerate overnight. Cut into squares.

FOOTNOTE

This salad takes time to prepare since each layer must be set before the next layer is added. Also remember that the pan will be inverted when unmolded, so put the flavor of gelatin you want on top in the pan first.

It's like a layered jello. It's very pretty. The only thing is make sure you don't skip the ';overnight'; step like I did...

After 4 hours of working on it, I chilled it for another 4 hours but the layers completely ripped... I was so sad...
I got this recipe recently while attending a picnic.

Everyone just raved about this cake and I got the recipe.

It's wonderful!
