Macaroni %26amp; smoke gouda

Ingredients

6 cups water

1 teaspoon salt

1/8 teaspoon vegetable oil

1 pound ditalini or small elbow macaroni

2 tablespoons plus 1/2 teaspoon unsalted butter

2 tablespoons bleached all-purpose flour

2 1/2 cups milk

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground white pepper

1/4 pound smoked Gouda cheese, grated

Italian flat-leaf parsley to garnish

Method

Preheat the oven to 375.

Put the water, 1/2 teaspoon of the salt, and the oil in a large, heavy saucepan over high heat and bring to a boil. Add the macaroni and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender, about 8 minutes. In a small, heavy saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and cook, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes. Slowly add the milk, whisking constantly. Add the remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt and the white pepper and continue whisking until the sauce is smooth and thick enough to coat the back of a wooden spoon, about 8 minutes. Remove the white sauce from the heat and stir in the cheese. Continue stirring until the cheese melts. Lightly grease a 6 1/2 by 10-inch casserole dish with the remaining 1/2 teaspoon butter. Combine the cheese sauce and macaroni in a large mixing bowl and mix well. Pour into the prepared casserole and bake until lightly golden on top, about 20 minutes. Potluck help!! i need a good quick recipe for appetizers! does anyone have any?

i want something quick and easy! if possible something spicy! if not that's ok but anything will help! no spinach dip or salsa please those are already taken on the list! :)Potluck help!! i need a good quick recipe for appetizers! does anyone have any?
I've got a great, simple recipe for a cheese log that's always a huge hit. Now don't judge until you've read the entire recipe. People rave about this log, and it never fails that they think it's some imported specialty cheese... when in fact it starts out as Velveta.

- 1 sm. package of (unsliced) Velveta cheese (makes 2 logs, or the really little package makes one.. Sorry.. I forget the ounces)

- chopped walnuts

- garlic powder (NOT garlic salt!!!)

Bring cheese to room temperature. Using desired amounts (be generous with garlic powder of the above ingredients, mix all together well with hands.

1 Tablespoon (or equal parts), mixed together:

- paprika (good mild Hungarian paprika is best)

- chili powder

- nutmeg

Lay out a piece of waxed paper

- If making 2 logs, break mixture in half.

- Roll one have into about a 6-inch log

- Spread seasoning mixture out on waxed paper and roll log in mixture, making sure to coat entire surface, including the ends

- Shape the other log and roll in mixture

- wrap each in plastic wrap and put in a container or wrap again in foil.

This is a cheese spread, not something that should be sliced, so be sure log is brought out at least 1/2 before serving so that it's spreadable. If people slice it, they tend to slice giant chunks.

Put on a tray with crackers and a few small cheese spreaders.

I guarantee you, this is always a hit, and it's different. The flavor is amazing. There's never any left no matter where I serve it.Potluck help!! i need a good quick recipe for appetizers! does anyone have any?
A friend used to make Snausages. Basically cooked spicy Italian sausage (bulk, crumbled) with Velveeta. It looks gross and needs to be in a crock pot but people loved it. Serve with crackers or cocktail rye.

Even though someone took salsa, a hot con queso dip would be nice. Same deal, spicy salsa and velveeta.

I make a layered dip. On a platter spread refried beans (mix in hot sauce if you like) top with sour cream and shredded cheese. Sprinkle with olives, scallions and chopped tomatoes and jalapenos if you like.

Oh, and a really easy one is spread cream cheese in a pie plate, top with canned chili and shredded cheese and bake at 300 for 20 minutes or so to heat through, I've even nuked it at half power until it was hot.
Salmon Dip (always a fav at my house)

1 8oz block of cream cheese

1 can of smokes salmon (or regular canned salmon and liquid smoke to taste)

green onions

garlic salt

fresh jalapeno (optional)

Mix together and let sit for at least an hour. Serve with crackers and veggies.
Stuffed cherry tomatoes . Stuffed with goat cheese.

Just scrape out the inside of the tomatoe and fill with Goat cheese top with some bread crumbs(optional)

bake on 400 for 10 min

they are terrific and they look great!!!

SO SIMPLE
How about some pinto beans with pork and green chili?

Or bean soup with jalapeno?

Most potlucks I go to have beans, and they tend to go fast!
I kind of agree with the little smokies in BBQ sauce. Use a crock pot and get some frilly toothpicks to get them out of the pot.
little smokies wrapped in bacon throw them in some crockpot with brown sugar thier done when the sugar carmelizers oooh so good
Little smokies wrapped in bacon. sprinkle brown sugar over and bake for 30-45 minutes. Delicious!

  • Potluck Recipes?

So we are having a potluck here at work.... babyshower potluck.... The boss is bringing ham and turkey.... what should I bring? Any good ideas and easy recipes?? something economical...im on a budget....Potluck Recipes?
For a work potluck, you want something that is simple to prepare and can be brought and served without much extra heating or prep. Something that a lot of people enjoy and usually goes really quickly is a cold pasta salad. I know that's seemingly boring, but my husband and I remember many work parties where the pasta salad is the biggest hit. Try one with rigatoni noodles (veggie or plain), cheddar cheese chunks, diced red bell peppers, sliced pepperoni, lightly steamed broccoli, and italian dressing. Simple and really good!Potluck Recipes?
Who's in charge of cake or desert? Anyone? If not why not do a sheet cake or cupcakes...new cookie icings make it a snap to decorate (Betty Crocker tube or can and tips included)

If someone is doing a cake or something special then I suggest a simple sweet potato casserole...easy inexpensive and it goes great with ham %26amp; turkey
deviled eggs are always popular and cheap to make
Here's a great recipe I got from the Uncle Ben's site some time ago...but can't find it there now:

Best Ever Wild Rice Picnic Salad

1 Pkg Uncle Ben's Long Grain %26amp; Wild Rice

    2-1/3 Cups Water

    1/4 Cup Vegetable Oil

    2 Tablespoons Cider Vinegar

    1/4 Cup Onion, finely chopped

    1 Cup Celery, sliced

    5 Radishes, sliced

    1 Cup Cucumber, diced

    1. Combine water %26amp; contents of rice %26amp; seasoning packets in medium saucepan.

    2. Bring to a boil. Cover %26amp; simmer until all liqid is absorbed (about 25 minutes).

    3. Transfer to bowl. Cover %26amp; chill.

    4. Combine oil %26amp; vinegar, stir into rice. Add onion %26amp; celery, mix well.

    5. Chill. Stir in radishes %26amp; cucumber before serving.

Says it serves 6, but it will serve a lot more at a pot luck.

    Enjoy!
    How about Dip and Chips.

    1 large can re-fried beans

    1 Jar of Salsa

    1 package of Taco Seasoning

    1 bag of shredded lettuce

    1 bag of ';fancy';shredded cheese

    Sour cream optional

Mix the taco mix with the re-fried beans if the re-fried beans are ';dry'; mix in a little salsa so it makes it scoop-able. Then start layering. In a pan (cake pan) spread the re-fried beans, then salsa, then lettuce, then cheese. If you use sour cream put the sour cream on-top of the beans. Get a couple of bags of scoop-able corn chips and there ya got it. Serve at room temp.
    BEAN SALAD

Get 1 can EACH kidney, garbanzo and cut green beans. Slice 1/2 onion and add to the beans. Toss with a nice Italian or vignarette salad dressing....... You could also add a can of sliced carrots, or wax beans, if you want.... This can sit on a buffet table for hours, and won't go bad either....

Ideas for ham recipe for potluck?

The company potluck is coming up. I have to be at work at 9 and we eat at noon. I'm supposed to make the ham, but don't want to get up in the middle of the night to put it in the oven. I experimented with a ';crock pot'; ham recipe I foind online, but it turned out stringy like a pot roast and not solid like ham is from the oven. Do you think I could cut the ham into slices and bake it in the oven while I get ready for work? Surely it wouldn't take as long because it wouldn't be a ';whole ham';. Any ideas?Ideas for ham recipe for potluck?

(*-*)Ideas for ham recipe for potluck?
You can buy a cured ham, which is already cooked. It just needs heated through. Take a large roasting pan and pour in a can of dr. pepper. Rub dijon mustard, brown sugar and salt and pepper over the entire ham (coat the ham) Take sliced pinapples and pin them to the ham with whole cloves and toothpick a few cherries in the center of the pinapple rings. It makes a wonderful ham and should only take about an hour :)
This is how I would take your ham to work. Purchase a spiral ham (precut). Cook it per the package instructions. Slice and place in crock pot and put in fridge. Next morning plug it in at work and leave on low or warm and it will be ready for you at lunch. Nice hot sliced ham.
Ham reheats very well. I would cook it the night before.

Then in the morning, slice it and re-heat it in the oven (covered).
It's a little bit more money, but buy a honey baked spiral ham. They take like an hour to heat up and then you can put it in the crock pop to keep it warm.

This one can be assembled the night before and baked when ready. It's really good and super easy to make.

Overnight Hashed Brown Potato Casserole (Cheese Potatoes)

    Ingredients:

    (8 servings)

2 lb Frozen hashed brown potatoes

    1/4 lb Butter

    1 pt Sour cream

    1 can Mushroom soup

    8 oz Cheddar cheese; shredded

1 Onion; grated or 1 T. instant minced onion

    3/4 c Milk* (optional)

    Instructions:

Cut butter into potatoes. Mix rest of ingredients together; pour over top of potatoes. Toss. *1/4 - 3/4 c. milk can be used in place of one-half of the sour cream. It will make a moister casserole, if desired. Bake in a 13x9'; pan at 350 for 1/2 hr covered and an additional 1/2 hr. uncovered. I have used Cheddar Cheese soup, but reduce the butter as it will be greasy with both. I also put additional shredded cheese on top during the second half hour of baking. Doubles well. Can be refrigerated overnight after mixing all together.

I make a baked brie that goes over pretty darn well when I take it along.

    1 small round brie

    1 pkg of PepperageFarms(sp) Puff Pastry ';Sheets';

(or any other puff pastry sheets)

    Raspberry jam/preserves (or other fav)

Using a veggie peeler remove all white on all of wheel. Do this while it's chilled it's easier.

Gently roll out 1 puff pastry sheet.

Place the wheel in the center of the sheet and then slather the top of the brie with a good layer of the jam/preserves.

Wrap up the brie with the rest of the puff pastry like a 'present'.

Place on a baking sheet or in an oven safe bowl (I use the bowl).

Bake at 375 for 25-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown. Sprinkle almonds over top. Serve warm with good crackers. I use water crackers with cracked pepper.

    New York Cheesecake

To prevent cracks and ensure a creamy texture, the cheesecake needs to cool gradually in the closed oven for one hour.

    Crust:

    2/3 cup all-purpose flour

    3 tablespoons sugar

2 tablespoons chilled butter, cut into small pieces

    1 tablespoon ice water

    Cooking spray

    Filling:

    4 cups fat-free cottage cheese

    2 cups sugar

    2 (8-ounce) blocks 1/3-less-fat cream cheese, softened

    1/4 cup all-purpose flour

    1/2 cup fat-free sour cream

    1 tablespoon grated lemon rind

    1 tablespoon vanilla extract

    1/4 teaspoon salt

    5 large eggs

    Preheat oven to 400掳.

To prepare crust, lightly spoon 2/3 cup flour into a dry measuring cup; level with a knife. Place 2/3 cup flour and 3 tablespoons sugar in a food processor; pulse 2 times or until combined. Add butter; pulse 6 times or until mixture resembles coarse meal. With processor on, slowly pour ice water through food chute, processing just until blended (do not allow dough to form a ball).

Firmly press mixture into bottom of a 9 x 3-inch springform pan coated with cooking spray. Bake at 400掳 for 10 minutes or until lightly browned; cool on a wire rack.

    Reduce oven temperature to 325掳.

To prepare filling, strain the cottage cheese through a cheesecloth-lined sieve for 10 minutes; discard liquid. Place cottage cheese in food processor; process until smooth.

Place 2 cups sugar and cream cheese in a large bowl; beat with a mixer at medium speed until smooth. Lightly spoon 1/4 cup flour into a dry measuring cup; level with a knife. Add 1/4 cup flour, sour cream, and remaining ingredients to cream cheese mixture; beat well. Add cottage cheese, stirring until well blended. Pour mixture into prepared crust.

Bake at 325掳 for 1 hour and 30 minutes or until almost set. Turn oven off. Cool cheesecake in closed oven 1 hour. Remove cheesecake from oven; run a knife around outside edge. Cool to room temperature. Cover and chill at least 8 hours.

Note: You can also make the cheesecake in a 10 x 2 1/2-inch springform pan. Bake at 300潞 for 1 hour and 30 minutes or until almost set. Turn oven off. Cool cheesecake in closed oven 30 minutes.

Nanaimo bar - A dessert made from three layers. At the bottom is a crumb layer (made from coconut, nuts and wafer crumbs), on top of this is a layer of vanilla custard, and this is topped by a layer of chocolate.

    These are so yummy!

    http://www.joyofbaking.com/NanaimoBars.h鈥?/a>

    Nanaimo Bars

    Bottom Layer:

1/2 cup (1 stick) (113 grams) unsalted butter, room temperature

1/4 cup (50 grams) granulated white sugar

    1/3 cup (30 grams) unsweetened cocoa (I use Dutch-processed)

    1 large egg, beaten

    1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

2 cups (200 grams) graham cracker crumbs

1 cup (65 grams) coconut (either sweetened or unsweetened)

1/2 cup (50 grams) walnuts or pecans, coarsely chopped

    FILLING:

1/4 cup (56 grams) unsalted butter, room temperature

    2 - 3 tablespoons milk or cream

2 tablespoons vanilla custard powder (Bird's) or vanilla pudding powder

    1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

2 cups (230 grams) powdered sugar (confectioners or icing) sugar

    TOPPING:

4 ounces (115 grams) semisweet chocolate, chopped

1 tablespoon (14 grams) unsalted butter

    Butter (or use a cooking spray) a 9 x 9 inch (23 x 23 cm) pan.

BOTTOM LAYER: In a saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Stir in the sugar and cocoa powder and then gradually whisk in the beaten egg. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens (1 - 2 minutes). Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract, graham cracker crumbs, coconut, and chopped nuts. Press the mixture evenly into the prepared pan. Cover and refrigerate until firm (about an hour).

FILLING: In your electric mixer cream the butter. Beat in the remaining ingredients. If the mixture is too thick to spread, add a little more milk. Spread the filling over the bottom layer, cover, and refrigerate until firm (about 30 minutes).

TOP LAYER: In a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of simmering water, melt the chocolate and butter. Spread over the filling and refrigerate.

TO SERVE: To prevent the chocolate from cracking, using a sharp knife, bring the squares to room temperature before cutting.

    Yield: Makes about 25 squares

    Leek and Canadian Bacon Quiche

you could use a premade pie crust if you want

    Ingredients:

    For the pastry:

    1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

    1/2 tsp. salt

4 Tbs. (1/2 stick) chilled unsalted butter

    1/4 cup vegetable shortening

3 to 4 Tbs. cold water

    For the filling:

6 slices Canadian bacon, cut into strips 1 inch

    long by 1/4 inch wide

    1 Tbs. unsalted butter

1 leek, including tender green portions, carefully

washed and cut crosswise into slices 1/4 inch

    thick

    3 eggs

    1 1/2 cups half-and-half

    1/4 tsp. salt

    1/4 tsp. freshly ground pepper

6 oz. Gruy猫re or Jarlsberg cheese, shredded

    1 1/2 tsp. cornstarch

    Directions:

To make the pastry, in a bowl, stir together the flour and salt. Add the butter and shortening and, using a pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in the butter and shortening until the mixture resembles coarse bread crumbs. Sprinkle in the water 1 Tbs. at a time, stirring gently with a fork after each addition and adding only enough of the water to form a rough mass.

Using floured hands, pat the dough into a smooth, round flattened disk. Use immediately or cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 2 days.

    Preheat an oven to 425潞F.

On a lightly floured work surface, roll out the pastry dough into a 12-inch round. Drape the pastry over the rolling pin and carefully transfer to a 9-inch tart pan with a removable bottom. Gently ease the pastry into the pan. Trim the pastry even with the pan rim.

Prick the bottom and sides of the pastry shell with a fork. Form a double-thick 12-inch square of aluminum foil, poke a few holes in it, then press it into the pastry-lined pan. Bake the pastry for 8 minutes. Remove the foil and bake until the pastry looks dry but not brown, about 4 minutes more. Remove from the oven; reduce the temperature to 325潞F.

To make the filling, in a nonstick fry pan over medium heat, saut茅 the Canadian bacon until it begins to brown, 2 to 3 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the bacon to paper towels to drain. Pour off the fat, reduce the heat to medium-low and melt the butter in the pan. Add the leek and saut茅, stirring frequently, until tender, about 10 minutes. Set aside.

In a bowl, using a fork, beat the eggs until lightly frothy. Stir in the half-and-half, salt and pepper. In another bowl, toss the cheese with the cornstarch. Add the cheese, bacon and leek to the egg mixture and stir well. Pour into the pastry shell.

Bake until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean, 35 to 40 minutes. If the edges are browning too quickly, cover them with strips of aluminum foil.

Transfer the pan to a wire rack and let cool for 15 minutes. Remove the pan rim and place the quiche on a serving plate. Serve warm. Makes one 9-inch quiche; serves 4 to 6.
don't know how much you need to make but this is Canadian and the measurements are for one gallon:

    3cups potatoes diced small

2tsp each thyme, minced garlic, black pepper

3cups kielbasa cooked and diced medium size (1/2 inch)

1 1/2 lb shredded sharp cheddar cheese

in a 4qt stock bring stout to a boil, then add cream and broth.

heat to simmer and add thyme, garlic, pepper.

Then slowly add shredded cheese stirring constantly with a whisk until cheese is melted and sauce is creamy and smooth. remove from heat and cover.

in a separate pan steam onion, carrot, and potato with water and a little salt until they are done but still firm drain and add to sauce.

in same pan warm sausage and add to soup. stir well.

if soup needs to be thickened place back on heat bring to high simmer and add corn starch to desired consistency. if thinned simply stir in warmed milk to desired consistency.

can be transferred to crock pot and warmed for party without fear of scorching.

add to presentation by slivering red, yellow, orange and green peppers and stirring them into the soup right before serving so they will remain crisp and distinctive in flavor.

    1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

    Sprinkle of sugar

    Sprinkle of cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease or spray a 9 x 13 pan. Open and unroll one can of the rolls and press into the bottom of the pan. Cream the cream cheese, sugar, egg yolk and vanilla. Open and unroll the second can of rolls and place over the filling. Brush the top with the egg white. Sprinkle on some sugar and cinnamon. Bake for 30 - 35 minutes.
Cinnamon and Sugar Biscotti. We make it as often as we can. It is so yummy and lite. But great with coffee. And if everyone else is bringing heavier breakfast items this will be a nice difference. GREAT with coffee.
french toast casserole, here are some websites, or you could just look any where in google i guess, it's really easy, all you do is cut day old french bread into cubes, but them in a baking dish, pour over the egg mixture and bake, really good
Breakfast pizza! It is pretty simple and not too much money.

Crust is biscuit (I get the refrigerated kind flatten it on a pizza pan or cookie sheet)

Sauce is gravy(the kind for biscuits and gravy)

Topping are what ever you want, eggs, bacon, sausage, cheese, onions, mushrooms, green chili, black olives are just some ideas. Anyway, it is a great recipe that can be changed up however you want and it is different! Hope this helps, enjoy:)
My mother in-law always makes this dish you put bread on the bottom with ham then eggs, cheese and then top with corn flakes and bake it sound weird but is good.
I make a very easy but, impressive sausage/bread braid...

It uses pillsbury cresant dough, bulk rolled sausage, cream chease and some green pepper/onion... Take the dough and unroll it onto a baking sheet seal up the perforations so it's a rectangle.. and roll it into a thin rectangle... Put in fridge to keep cold. Cook sausage, 1/2 green pepper/onion and add 1/2 block of cream cheese. Let cool... Put in middle of rectangle leaving room along the sides/edges of rectangle... With a knife cut 1/2 inch strips and ';braid'; over the sausage mixture.. It's very, very easy... and looks so pretty... Brush with egg wash and bake until golden brown ! I know this sounds hard but its really not.. it's takes minimal effort and looks fantastic... don't worry if the strips break just reattach and layer over sausage... good luck
Get a box or those cheesy scalloped potatoes and make them. Brown a roll of sausage. Mix the sasage and potatoes together and bake until the top is brown and crispy. It's so good!
